Mongolia is a country located in East and Central Asia. On the north side, Mongolia boarders Russia while on the south, east and west, you will find the People’s Republic of China. The Mongol Empire was founded in 1206 by Genghis Khan.
Over the centuries, the country had been ruled by numerous nomadic empires, including the Gokturks, Xiongnu, Rouran, Xianbei, among others. Near the end of the 17th century, the majority of Mongolia was ruled by the Qing Dynasty. It wasn’t until the collapse of the Dynasty in 1911 that Mongolia declared its independence. Mongolia claimed a Democratic Revolution which eventually led to a multi-party system in 1990. This continued on to declare a new constitution and transition to a market economy in 1992.
With a population around 2.9 million people, Mongolia is the 19th largest and most populated country in the world. Nearly half of people living in the country reside in urban centers. Semi-nomadic life is still vivid in the countryside, but agricultural families are becoming more and more common.

September brings about another month full of new growth and color. October, although getting chilly, is still a fine time for travelers, especially in the deserts of Gobi. Weather patterns at this time change drastically so be prepared.
